Matt Hillman of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! created these amazing renderings of what a 2013 F1 car would look like with some of the most iconic liveries of the past.

HOW COOL IS THAT?! Fingers crossed that Honda and McLaren do something like this for 2015.

And the Williams! Looks better than half the field already.

Nope. No tobacco in F1. Ferrari reduced it to stripes and then removed it completelt. Even in the game F1 2013 there are no tobacco ads on the cars. There are only big colored spots. In the movie RUSH the producers had to apply for a special permission to have the Marlboro logo on Hunt's McLaren for the closeups, as well as closeups on the other cars. On a few shots, the tobacco branding is removed.

I've seen a lot of retweets from the McLaren account with people suggesting the same thing. Their Vodafone & Santander sponsorship would certainly work with that livery. Marlboro might throw a spanner in the works though. But you can bet they'll be dropping the silver colour scheme when Mercedes stop being their engine supplier. I think their current livery will be a future classic.

They could also go all orange. That'd be really cool. And it'd stand out from a field of blue, black and white.

Technically, I believe they can have tobacco ads during a couple of races (China and Monaco), but most countries don't allow it. It comes down to local laws. Hence, the Ferrari 'bar code' paint scheme we saw for a few years.

Nope, they outlawed all tobacco advertising in motorsport if I recall. Martini is alcohol so I think that's okay. Kingfisher is a beer and its advertised on the Force India's so I don't know why you couldn't bring back a Martini livery.

Loved them all. Unfortunately I think the Hesketh and the Brabham liveries would be too plain for the required flashiness needed to garner attention on TV. I was missing the JPS Lotus

One of my favorite color schemes has been Mercedes McLaren's. Not because I think it looks better than these liveries, but because the metallic finish really accentuates the contours of the car. All these hide those details.

A couple of years back I had the opportunity to see the McLaren in person. It was incredible; there was so much detail that my brain couldn't absorb it all. All these, while they're very nice, make the car easier to digest because you're looking at the livery and not the nuances.

I think it's why I've been finding myself gravitating towards silver cars in general.

Orange is McLaren factory color since ever. Most of the time, they use it when they show the new product (road car, endurance race car, F1 car) to keep the tradition.

Right, but when sponsorship took over, McLaren had their longstanding stretch with Marlboro (which was awesome, btw). Then they had a 10-ish year stint with West, one with Johnnie Walker, then to the current Vodafone scheme. But McLaren ALMOST returned to Papaya Orange. And I hope they bring it back.

One thing I really respect about Ferrari is they have kept the Rosso Corsa (race red) for years-on-years-on-years-on-years-on-years-on-years. It would be cool to see McLaren go back to their roots, especially since this IS the 50th year of McLaren. Good time to make a bold change.

We'll never see the Camel, Marlboro, or any other cigarette sponsorships again (not even the ones they had at the end... with the brand standing for "our clothing line, not our cigarettes!" or the Marlboro red/white without the name). They wouldn't be able to race half the tracks (Europe, U.S.) and couldn't air it on TV anymore.

But the classic liveries are really cool. I'm seriously contemplating getting the Martini in vinyl on my 2005 Boxster :)
